Get Wildly Creative About South Africa

Cape Quarter Cool

shanaLast meeting to the day in Town is a wrap. I cannot be bothered to sit in traffic for an hour or two to get home, and decide to venture to the Waterfront instead. I make my way down Somerset Road, see that the new Cape Quarter is open and decide to pop in.  ”Let’s be spontaneous” I vocalise to myself in the car (I talk to myself all the time, don’t you ;-)).

~WOW~

What started off as a stressed post meeting drive, ended up in love a first – ‘blow’, ‘blowdry’, that is :). (More to follow, I promise, I am getting there). As I venture up the stairs and peek around, I am amazed by the stylish stores, cafes, restaurants, art galleries, cupcake store (must mention this) and more. The galleries display the most amazing art by South African artists, and I astounded at the magnificence that is pure art and genius. I am an art fan and wannabe artist and seeing the various techniques on display is for want of a better word, inspiring. I immediately spot an Art Jamming studio and nearly stay for a session.

(I wish I had).

As I make my way up each flight of stairs, on reaching the top floor, I spot … a hair salon. It looks tres chic and I try my luck for a trim and ‘blow-dry‘. On entering, I am greeted by the sweetest lady, who looks for a gap and yes, there is, I am with lady luck today.

As I wait, I am offered coffee, tea, cappuccino, wine or water and I have one of each (okay, perhaps not :)).

The stylist greets me and we ‘head’ to the basin for a wash. Dylan is the master stylist. I have loads of hair and whenever I embark on the daring adventure of trying new hairdressers, I cringe, fearing the pouf or volumed look about to appear (eek). He takes to the scissors with ease and starts blow drying my hair. Usually, my hair is flat ironed, but oh no, he does not need that. He is good, very good. I think I have found my dream stylist.

Sleek, perfectly blown hair makes me happy (”,). He is a perfectionist and I am at ease from word go. Yes, I have found my dream man, he is the muse who tames my hair, how can I not be happy :).

My new destination, Cape Quarter is amazing, I highly recommend a visit. Although not complete or fully let, it already has much traffic. For something new and trendy, go for a coffee, even do your grocery shopping, and if you don’t like the Spar (which is uber trendy), there is a Pick ‘n Pay opposite the road.

Convenience is thy name and trendy, my game, Somerset Road, we are moving up, are we not?
