EXECS TO DISCUSS HOW IT REVOLUTION IS CHANGING AFRICA IN “VIRTUAL ROUNDTABLE” WITH US MEDIA

Mobile communications and broadband access are revolutionizing Africa’s development prospects creating previously unimaginable opportunities for US business and investors.

With Seacom’s new 17 000 mile  fiber-optic cables now linking southern and east Africa to data networks in Europe and Asia, is Africa poised to go from laggard to leapfrog?

E-commerce, digital cash, market intelligence for farmers and small business, telemedicine, distance learning, business process outsourcing – all and more are starting to unleash the potential of a continent hitherto shackled by poor communications and infrastructure.

For a candid discussion of these and related issues, US media are being invited to participate in a boardroom-style videoconference with the CEO’s and other top executives of African and US companies at the forefront of the revolution:

  • Mr. Phutuma Nhleko, CEO: MTN
  • Mr. Steve Midgley, MD: Cisco Systems
  • Mr. Andile Ngcaba, Executive Chair: Dimension Data
  • Dr. Sebiletso Mokone-Matabane, CEO: Sentech
  • Mr Thamsanqa Msimango, Executive Director: Telkom Africa
  • Mr. Wally Beelders, Group Executive: Vodacom Business
  • Minister Ebrahim Patel, Department of Economic Development

The panel will be speaking from Johannesburg. The link-up will be to Cisco offices in Washington and New York.  The videoconference is exclusively for US-based media, including bloggers. There are six only seats available at each Cisco location.

Time:  10.30 am to 12 am, Wednesday, October 28.
