67 minutes which will last forever

mandeladayThe call by the Nelson Mandela Foundation and its sister organizations for the creation of an official global Mandela Day, to be celebrated annually on 18 July, Mandela’s birthday, was heard and answered by Brand South Africa in partnership with Heartlines.

Together volunteers from The International Marketing Council of South Africa and Heartlines offered double their 67 minutes to host less privileged children from Nkosi Haven and Scripture Union and Vuka TB & HIV Project, at a special birthday party held at The Wilds, North of Johannesburg.

And as always Brand South Africa wore their hearts where it belongs – on their sleeves!

The day was filled with fun, food and a jovial exuberance. Adults and children alike were seen enjoying the tasty treats and blowing out candles or jumping on the jumping castles, partaking in face painting activities and ball games. There were smiles all around and a robust laughter could be heard from afar as the crowd sang Happy Birthday to Madiba.

The volunteers had the following to say:

“The whole experience was awesome, phenomenal out of this world. I really felt so fulfilled to have touched those kids’ lives in a positive way. The smiles on their faces said it all!” says Bulelwa Zimba.

“The experience was touching. If one can do this more often, many lives of our young people will be changed. I am grateful that I spent my 67 minutes in this way. If given another opportunity I will do it again. Thanks Nelson Mandela this is my contribution to what you gave us.” says Thami Khubeka.

“What a lovely experience! This should be done more often. One cannot describe the sense of fulfillment for doing something for needy children. Thank you to the IMC for the opportunity to do something for the nation.” says Lindi Sibiya.

“The air took on a sense of magic and truly became Alive with Possibility, as adults and children together shared joy and love. For a moment we were all truly free. The love and joy I shared with these children, makes me want to stay patriotic, to make South Africa the best place for my family to live in.” says Nadine Khan.

“It was an awesome Birthday! Those kids are still in my heart, their souls and spirits. Thank you for the opportunity and the well planned event.” says Irene Nyembe.

One thing we all agree on is that this was 67 minutes which will last forever in our minds and hearts.

Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrica!
